MySpace Tempts Developers With Discounts, Promotions

Never mind the tactics of Facebook, Google, and other popular online companies; with its latest appeal to developers, MySpace appears to have taken a (good) page out of the AARP’s playbook.  The social network has brokered deals with a number of companies so that developers can save money on products and services by teaming up with it.

This isn’t quite the same thing as a discount on a cruise or a free dessert at a nice restaurant; MySpace is trying to keep developers working, not make them leave their desks.  The key is that MySpace is trying to make developers’ work cheaper and easier.

MySpace Opens Offices To Social Gaming Developers

It’s becoming hard to imagine how MySpace could get more serious about social games.  This afternoon, the social network went several steps beyond encouraging or even paying game developers by instead offering to share office space with some of them.

A MySpace representative explained in an email to WebProNews, "MySpace is launching a pilot program that will bring social gaming developers in-house to create or extend their game titles.  The MySpace Games Lab is a part of our effort to support developers by providing rapid feedback and helping them quickly turn around iterations of their game features."

MySpace Offers New SDK To Android, iPhone Developers

It’s possible that MySpace will soon become much more popular with people who own iPhones, iPod Touches, iPads, and Android devices.  MySpace announced this afternoon that it’s launched a new SDK designed to make it easier for developers to integrate the site into their applications.

MySpace’s timing is excellent.  Earlier today, a report from Gartner indicated that Android and the iPhone OS are the only two mobile operating systems to have seen a year-over-year increase in market share, and on Monday, MySpace introduced new privacy settings that could impress many of the users Facebook’s scared off.

MySpace Gets New Leadership for Marketing, Entertainment

MySpace let us know that it’s hired marketing industry vet David Donegan as Senior Vice President of Marketing. He will oversee the company’s marketing, entertainment and events teams and strategies.

MySpace Puts Former Googler Over Games, Dev Platform

Fresh off News Corp.’s quarterly earnings report, MySpace has added a new member to its team, and he looks more than capable of helping the site move forward.  In fact, the man’s spent a good deal of time working for a certain search giant, and he’ll oversee two businesses on which MySpace is putting more and more emphasis.

A MySpace spokesperson told WebProNews in an email, "MySpace is announcing Manu Rekhi as the new GM of MySpace Games and Developer Platform.  Manu brings to this role an extensive background in strategic business and product development with a variety of companies including Google and Lolapps."
